![]() ![]() He was born in Geneva, Ala., the son of a Southern Baptist music minister father and an elementary school librarian mother, the second of three sons. God’s master plan, perhaps, but Chick-Fil-A literally showed him the door. It was either God or Chick-Fil-A that brought Mike Ashcraft to North Carolina. And yes, there are those recently unemployed. ![]() There’s a homeless man, brought here to see for himself if God really does save. There’s a man in an addiction recovery program. In the crowd is an overwhelmed woman whose husband has cancer and two children are handicapped. And God has no doubts.Īs he jogs onto the stage, the 38-year-old Ashcraft looks young, much younger than a man expected to help quell the fears and pain of those he will address. But as Scripture shows time and again, this is God’s plan, not Ashcraft’s. Still, it’s also a role he’s fretted over and even doubted – doubted that he was the man God was calling to this, doubted people would come, doubted money would be there. “I’ve been going here five years and he’s probably talked about it twice.”Īsk anyone who knows Mike, as most call him, and they’ll tell you this is a role God created just for him. “Money’s a difficult situation for him to talk about,” says Ryan Horn, who serves as a body man to Ashcraft, keeping him moving to meet with everyone who requests his attention after the services. It’s an even harder message to give when delivered from within a new 90,000-square-foot, $18 million building. It’s a hard message to deliver on any day, let alone at a time when the unemployment rate in the area has nearly doubled in the past year. With the economy in a slump, Ashcraft will speak about the trappings of money. He’s given thousands of sermons in his life, but this one is particularly tough for him. Once the opening music ends, Ashcraft starts down the aisle. “But, at times, you feel like you could run.” He smiles a big grin. “Once I’m up there, it’s OK,” he says of this pre-sermon energy. So he eats carefully Sundays, nothing heavy, nothing spicy. The adrenaline is there every Sunday, before every service. He stretches a bit, crosses his arms, then puts his hands in his back pockets. The atmosphere is half worship, half rock concert, with people swaying to the music or raising their hands in praise. The production values alone are flawless, with staff on cameras, lighting, video displays, soundboards and in a control room, where a team produces the day’s service. Today, though, he moves to the back of the auditorium as the band begins. He often takes 7-year-old daughter Michaela to Treasure Island, the children’s ministry. After this alone time, he may pray with the band and production team in the Green Room, where those who are gathered look more like a college study group than the staff of a prominent church. “I try to remember there’s not much of a difference between 1,000 people and 1,005 people – unless you’re one of those five,” he says. ![]() There will be people in these seats hurting, and they’re looking for answers.” Ashcraft does this to remind himself that although the church has experienced a near meteoric rise from a handful of college students at its first service in 1999, when he was only 28 years old himself, to an astounding 4,800 (and still growing) congregation, these are people, not numbers. He breathed deep and thought, “Today, there may be someone sitting here who’s lost a job. Though he’s a mass of high energy now, about an hour ago Ashcraft sat in the empty auditorium, just as he does every Sunday before the 8:30 service. He brushes his teeth a second time this morning (“Coffee breath,” he says), touches base with his mother-in-law/scheduler Brenda and chats briefly with staff. While people pool into the 1,500-seat auditorium, drop children off in the youth areas or congregate with coffee and friends in the church hall, Ashcraft moves with bundled tension. In the moments before he’s scheduled to take the stage in front of a sanctuary overflowing with devoted followers, a noticeably anxious Mike Ashcraft is moving in fast-forward in the offices of Port City Community Church. ![]() ![]() ![]() Once that is all done for and decided, simply press on the Start Your Journey and you can begin your simulation of being a Hogwarts student for yourself.
![]() ![]() One does not simply engage in an encounter…Įxploring these provinces is important, though. It might take twice that long if I do! That’s way too long in my opinion. That might mean it’ll take me 5-10 turns to clear just one tile if I don’t lose any of my forces. I’ve had as little as 8% “searched” in a single turn. Each “exploration” only reveals a random percentage of the tile. Second, the amount of time it takes to clear a province is staggering. My enjoyment of the game would certainly have been enhanced if I could recruit the robbers or centaurs to join my team rather than having to constantly fight them. First, the options in the encounter menus may seem intriguing, but they’re all a mirage. The problems with this mechanic are twofold. Enemies don’t want to parlay, they want to fight. Usually, however, your choice means little. You’ll then have a string of options that ostensibly give you some choice in the matter. It could be a friendly tribe that wants to trade or a group of highwaymen looking for a fight. Unlike many 4X games, you issue orders at the beginning of the turn, then those orders will be executed when you press “End Turn.” When you explore, you’ll be given a popup that shows what you’ve discovered. Then it’s a matter of clicking the “explore” button on the radial UI for the unit stack. To explore a province, you must move at least one unit there. Each province, including your starting province, must be explored in order to remove bandits or monsters and to uncover special resources or points of interest. Lifting it is not the meat of exploration. There is a fog of war, which is nothing special, but you can turn if off if you so desire. Behold! The floating islands of Masters of the Broken- I mean IMPERIUM! As it is, they do tickle the imagination as you play. Someone who’s a loremaster would have so much fun filling a backstory for these. ![]() Additionally, the various provinces have very evocative names such as Marshvale or The Swelling Lands. ![]() I really like this as it gives the world a much more organic feel. They’re irregularly shaped, and often five sided. First, the tiles (called provinces) are not regular hexagons like those found in Warlock 2 or the squares in Planar Conquest. Despite these improvements, though, I believe there is still a lot to be desired from this game.Įxploration is one of the most fun aspects of any 4X game, and the developers for E:I spent a ton of time making sure the mechanics for it are plentiful and deep. The game available on Steam now is quite different from the one that launched at the beginning of 2017. Įador: Imperium ( E:I ) received numerous updates from the new developers, fixing a great number of bugs and adding several new features. As a result, the development team was let go by the investors behind the game, and a new team was installed. It launched with numerous bugs, warmed-over content, and little community input. That success prompted the studio to evolve the game once more, but this time Snowbird’s offering was almost universally panned. The sequel, Eador: Masters of the Broken World, had a fine reception and currently has almost 200k owners on Steam according to data from SteamSpy. It was met with critical acclaim but modest interest. Amid this flood of space-based titles, Snowbird Games went a different direction and released the third iteration of its Eador fantasy series called “Imperium.”Ī quick history lesson: The Eador series began with Genesis back in 2009 (then put on Steam in 2013). Since 2014, there have been 16 Space 4X titles launched with another six (that we know of) in early access or closed beta. There are certainly some balance issues connected with some of those new creatures, but this takes away surprisingly little from the otherwise mesmerizing experience. For the last few years, I’ve made it no secret that I have grown tired with the number of Space 4X games that have hit the market. The new portraits are a big issue and some of the creatures such as the way that Gnolls are implemented into the game ( I am especially referring to their totally overpowered rebirth as chaos demons) or the "ghost whisperer" who is reminiscent of a King's Bounty unit. The only negative point is that some of the new elements really feel out of place (whereas others fit perfectly). I totally need to recommend this to everyone who has ever cherished a fantasy TBS. The feeling really reminds me of the addictive atmosphere that HOMM 3 offered to me in my early teenage years and this is really difficult to accomplish considering that I am now old and jaded and I found most similar games rather lackluster in recent years. Having played a bit of Eador Genesis and MoTBW in the past, I have recently started with the New Horizons Mod V2.81a and I can only say that it's a marvelous experience. ![]() ![]() If KR: Drift is just like Rush+ with better graphics and no pay2win, then i am really hyped for KR:Drift to launch. The best kart stat wise in Rush + is a kart called Pink Cotton that you buy from Chrono Shop. I played (and still plays) KartRider Rush+ on mobile since it launched globally and i am level 18 so far, so i got some conserns about KR: Drift.ġ: Will KR: Drift be pay2win? ![]() ![]() Or rebuild the franchise to be more multiplayer oriented with invading other game sessions or maybe even multiplayer maps. Switch to publishing one new game every 2 to 3 years with limited post launch support. My guess is that the sales numbers exceeded their expectations but the active player count was rather dissapointing and now they need to figure out what to do moving forward. I guess this is also why they called this DLC "the last DLC" so they seem to be aware that they communicated more than they now plan to deliver and use this bizarre phrasing to curb expectations. Everything they communicated to the customer base is that they were in for the long run. They heavily focussed on skins, emotes and providing roadmaps for upcoming content. Last years action RPG hit Remnant: From the Ashes now has a swanky new physical release so I figured its about time to check it out. I read the same but I think they planned for the game to work more as a "game as a service". I don't know what would have happened to cancel future plans if they had any. Will there be a Remnant 2? Are they re-conceptualizing the franchise since their goal to have a large consistent playerbase was not met? Or is the franchise put on hold for now? The game came out last year from developer Gunfire. I guess the announcement of Part 2 was scrapped and they polished whatever they had and put it out as a DLC. THQ Nordic had some interesting news this morning as they have secured the rights to release the physical edition of Remnant: From The Ashes. Another indicator could be that their roadmap suggested a big surprise in late 2020 (which August definitely isn't). It makes me think that this DLC are the remnants (no pun intended) of a full game that was supposed to take place in multiple locations like part one. "Revisiting" an old very short area and simultaneously adding a new but also rather short new planet seems a bit odd. ![]() The DLC also features a new tileset on earth before dropping the player into Reisum. The physical edition of Remnant: From the Ashes will be available in retail stores on Maand will cost 39.99. It seems like the amount of story was supposed to happen over a longer game. For one, there is a very heavy focus on story with a number of NPCs that are introduced rather abruptly. ![]() Remnant: From the Ashes is getting a physical release on March 17 - Game. However, when looking at this DLC I can't help but feel that this is what was supposed to be Remnant 2 and they scrapped it. Coming Soon to Xbox Game Pass for ConsoleMarch 19Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. There is also a Twitter post that was released before Remnant 1 where one of the devs was already thinking out loud that they would want to do a part 2. You can also check out our previous news or visit the official site for the game.So I've finished the DLC now and while the game doesn't exactly end on a cliffhanger the ending seems to indicate that the final boss wasn't the highest entity in the chain of command. You can watch the “Best Friends” trailer below. I’m more of a solo player on games like this. You will also be able to team up with two friends to overcome the harder challenges in the game. Oh yeah, don’t forget those punishing boss battles too. The game plunges players deeper into a world that has been devastated and it will require players to mix melee and ranged combat against the cunning enemies. It will also include branching quest lines as well as an expanded Archetype system. The sequel builds on the original game, introducing new weapons, bosses, gear, biomes, and more. It has been confirmed that Remnant II will be released to physical media as well as digital. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() If you want to run two primary weapons in your loadout, you need the Overkill perk. This perk allows you to move faster around the tropical island regardless if you are rushing to a spot or simply running for your life. There are other options, but for the most part you’ll have your life saved by this perk whenever you step on a Proximity Mine or come across a C4 explosive. Here are the best perks available in the game to give you an even better head start every match:Į.O.D reduces the damage you take from non-killstreak explosives and fire, making it a popular choice for most loadouts. The XM4 could work as a poor man’s Cooper Carbine, but it lacks some fire rate somewhat compensated for with an extra damage boost. This severely limits its potential, but overall it's a great assault rifle. The biggest downside of the XM4 is its meagre five available attachments, since it's not a Vanguard gun. It's a great weapon for mid-to-long encounters, but it lacks the recoil management and trustworthiness to be the obvious first choice. The KG M40 hit the ground running when it debuted in Season 2: it boasts the second-highest damage-per-shot in the assault rifle category. ![]() I'll update this list again for Season 4 to confirm whether this will be one of the popular weapons in the game. We'll see how it performs throughout the season to see if it can reclaim its spot near the top of this list.Īt least on paper the Nikita AVT assault rifle has all the attributes to become a meta weapon in the near future, especially while carrying the best rate of fire of its class. I'm personally hurt by the nerfs inflicted on the Kar98k: it was once one of the best weapons in Warzone, but the decrease to its max damage distance and ADS speed has undermined its fan-favourite attributes. It's really versatile compared to other ARs, but it's also strong at finishing off enemies at close quarters. If mid-distance weaponry is your thing, go for a meta gun like the Cooper Carbine. Its fire rate continues to be a beaut to handle, too. This extremely fast SMG is one of the most dominant weapons in short distances and has improved its reliability in the mid-range. Now after consistent performance throughout last season, it climbs to A-tier. The PPSh-41 was stuck in the mid-tiers last season, but definitely showed promise. ![]() |
